Today our friends were in the Karoo National Park in South Africa where they witnessed the fly past of an enormous swarm of locusts. The fly past lasted about 2 hours, plus about another hour “for the stragglers to leave….” The swarm was so large that our friend DT wrote in her WhatsApp : “Yes it is amazing we can hardly see the mountains … it looks like a sand storm in the distance.” Thank you DT for the pictures and video (which I enlarged).
Scroll down please: There are two pictures and then the video followed by a quiz question about the size of locust swarms.

Quiz: How big was one of the biggest swarm of locusts ever?

Gannets – thousands of them. Amazing birds. When feeding, they can dive into the water at 120 km/hr! Thanks to AH for the pictures. Three pictures

How fast can 30 jump jets, parked almost wing tip to wing tip, suddenly take off with no collisions? One second? Impossible? But look at the video below and see what HE has created can do in about one second. The video is in slow motion!
A back garden sermon?
These pictures were taken in “Die Hell”. I have tried to turn the pictures into an animated slide show with voice over using iMovie which comes with my iPhone 12. I am learning by doing. Please enjoy my very amateur first effort. And yes. my advice is only go there with a 4X4. It us really worth the adventurous effort.
Sorry the video goes black at the end. Lots to learn!
Thanks.
When are you going to feed yourself? Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
